From 29 to 31 May 2026, Matiz Gallery presents ImageNation Barcelona, an international group exhibition of contemporary photography organised by ImageNation Paris and curated by Martin Vegas. Following previous editions in Paris, New York, Venice, Arles, Milan, Los Angeles and London, the project arrives in Barcelona with a wide-ranging selection of photographers working across analogue, digital and Polaroid formats.
Set in the historic centre of the city, in Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera, the exhibition brings together emerging and established image-makers from different countries and backgrounds to explore questions of body, identity and perception. Moving between intimate observation, constructed image, documentary sensitivity and experimental aesthetics, the works on view reflect the many ways photography can register presence, memory, atmosphere and personal experience.
Originally launched in 2013 and developed by DeFactory Cultural Association, ImageNation has grown into an itinerant platform for contemporary photography, connecting artists and audiences across different cultural contexts. Its Barcelona edition continues that trajectory while entering into dialogue with the city’s own photography scene through a weekend exhibition format centred on visibility, exchange and public access.
