This small painting by Alberto Ruiz Villar reveals another way in which his work balances color, form, and abstraction. The composition is built around two circular forms and a large grey field, which comes from a real accident with spray paint during the making of the piece.
Rather than hiding or correcting the accident completely, Alberto incorporates it into the structure of the painting. In this sense, the work relates to his usual process of scratching and marking the surface, but in an almost opposite way. Instead of exposing the layers beneath, the grey spray creates a veil over part of the composition, turning the accident into a new compositional element.
The piece gives direct access to Alberto’s process: decisions, accidents, corrections, and coverings remain visible within the final image. It does not present the painting as a closed or perfectly resolved surface, but as a provisional composition shaped by color, geometry, and chance.
