The residency space is situated within Matiz Gallery, allowing the resident artist to immerse themselves in the everyday dynamics of an established art venue.

This residency aims to foster intercultural exchange and social cohesion in the Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera neighborhood—one of Barcelona’s most culturally diverse areas.

Why This Residency?

Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera is home to a vibrant mix of cultures, with 45% of its population being foreign nationals. Among these, the Moroccan community represents around 3.3%*, making it one of the top five foreign groups in the neighborhood. This diversity shapes the neighborhood’s identity, but also highlights the need for inclusive cultural representation.

In this context, "La Marroquí" emerges as a platform to amplify Moroccan cultural voices, focusing on the intersections of gender, identity, and heritage. The residency not only supports creative expression but also addresses the social dynamics and perceptions surrounding Moroccan culture in Barcelona.
