BIO
¿Qué inspira a ALEXANDRE?
This trapped deep navy-blue composition, framed by two white vestiges, evokes the meeting point between beach and sea · The work unfolds through horizontal scratches where the density of indigo hues reveals shifting layers of depth · Beyond the immediate visual impression, the large format — characteristic of Alexandre Clanis — exerts a magnetic force, pushing the observer into the painting itself · The materials he uses, from plastic tarps to, in this case, brown industrial paper, are closely tied to scale — chosen for their availability in large dimensions and their raw, unrefined character · His obsessive repetitions generate vast windows onto a broader visual territory, turning gesture into structure and rhythm into space. Vastness.

This vertical composition, painted on brown industrial paper, reflects Alexandre Clanis’s ongoing dialogue between matter and light. Once familiar with his work, the piece transports the viewer to a three-layered natural scene — reminiscent of a red sundown reflected on the surface of the sea. The gestures are playful yet measured, resulting in a serene window to the outside

This composition marks a distinct moment within Alexandre Clanis’s body of work. While open to interpretation as another window into a darker, natural realm, the piece is drawn directly onto sandpaper using crayon. Part of the series “The Exhaustion of the Tool,” it pushes the oscillation of gesture to the point of absurdity, resulting in a surface covered with traces — the visible remains of a consumed pencil. These material and conceptual limits are central to understanding Clanis’s practice, where process, persistence, and erosion become acts of creation.

Painted on industrial paper, this composition with a deep navy-blue background unfolds like an atmospheric field — a window opening outward. Alexandre Clanis uses his fingertips to form a curved, crosshatched texture and soft white smudges, creating transitions between different states of matter that reveal the blue layer beneath. Subtle yellow highlights drift across the surface, bringing a sense of stillness and light to this contemplative scene.

This composition unfolds through sweeping white gestures interlaced with accents of red. The brushstrokes, layered in rhythmic repetition, create a vibrating texture that feels both energetic and meditative. The exposed raw surface beneath enhances the sense of material presence, turning the Industrial paper into a living territory where movement is inscribed. Part of Clanis’s ongoing exploration of “affective chemistry,” the work resonates like a pulse — a skin of memory and breath translated into paint.

This composition unfolds in bold contrasts of blue and white. Wide, textured gestures in white sweep across a saturated blue ground, creating an interplay of opacity and light. The rhythm of the strokes evokes both turbulence and clarity, embodying Clanis’s idea of painting as an “affective chemistry” — a surface that vibrates with energy, memory, and breath. The square format heightens the sense of immersion, inviting the viewer into a luminous, living territory.

This massive 180 × 280 cm painting on black industrial canvas reflects the rigorous yet intuitive process that runs through Alexandre Clanis’s work. Through deliberate gestures of applying white paint by hand, the artist leaves prints and traces that evoke the immensity of a nocturnal landscape. The scratches and accidental lines unfold like a glimpse of a natural formation — a silent terrain shaped through persistence and chance. The scale of the piece envelops the viewer, drawing them into a contemplative state.
